As with all of the FIFA games, there are a number of improvements. Hundreds, according to the game's producer. Improved responsiveness is also a noted change, which allows for more control over the ball and a shoulder-to-shoulder system that takes into account the players' strength when they jostle. The latest in the franchise, FIFA 10 brings about many new additions to the Manager Mode that many players have welcomed. A new Assistant Manager can sort out your team for you while you focus on the the larger gameplay. Furthermore, sponsors are less important, while the club's board of directors are more so, due to their ability to dish out whatever wages they feel your team deserves. The Auto-Resolve option for matches now takes into account the team's overall strength, rather than randomly choosing a winner.

The Curse of the Madden Cover Appearance

The release of Madden 11 will be one of the most hyped and anticipated events in 2010. This renowned franchise has been a phenomenon for the past 21 years. It's right there for the annual NFL Draft, creating shots of players on their new teams almost instantly. Television programs pitting some of the most talented Madden NFL players in tournaments are shown around the world. You may have also heard the term "Madden Holiday"...and it just goes to show how incredibly popular it has become.

 

For all the good that comes with the hype and hysteria of Madden NFL, there is a downfall to the game's yearly release. In 1999, John Madden relinquished the cover of each game to a player...and since then, those players have ahd notortiously rough years.

 

Last year was no exception to the Madden curse, and it made it's mark in the very first week of the regular season. Two players made their way onto the cover of Madden 10 for the first time ever. Defending Super Bowl Champion safety of the Pittsburgh Steelers Troy Polamalu goes head-to-head with one of the men he covered in the big game last February, Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald. Well, Polomalu got hurt in the very first game he played after being put on the cover of Madden, a medial collateral ligament sprain. Without their defensive captain, the Steelers struggled, ceding the AFC North division title to the Bengals.

 

You'd think that the NFL would have leraned it's leason by now. When EA Sports comes calling, it's probably in everybody's best interest to decline the offer regardless of how prestigious and financially rewarding the opportunity might be. Whether you're just as superstitious, you can't deny the historical evidence of the Madeen curse's negative impact.

 

The History of the Madden Curse:

 

2002: After making it to the NFC with the Vikings in 2000, quaerterback Daunte Culpepper missed the final five games of the 2001 season (after being fatured on the cover) leading his team to a record of 5-11.

 

2003: After being featired as the Madden 03 cover athlete, Rams' running back Marshall Faulk played the whole 2002 season with a naggin ankle problem, and didn't reach his full potential. He failed to rush for 1,000 yards for the first time in 6 years, and the Rams finished the season 7-9. missing the playoffs.

 

2004: Atlanta Falcons quarterback and franchise cornerstone Michael Vick was selected for the 2004 installment of Madden NFL, but missed the entire season after suffering a fractured right fibula in a preseason game and watched his team finish with a 5-11 record.

 

2006: Donovan McNabb was honored with a Madden cover appearance after his team made it to the Super Bowl in 2004. The curse struck him next season, and the sports hernai he suffered early in the year caused him to sit out the last 7 games.

The critics are all fairly unanimous in their belief that Xbox NHL 10 is truly one of the greatest sports video games ever made, not that anyone should be surprised.} And after seeing the game in action, you'll feel the same way - with the players' movement so realistic as they make their way around the ice, it's almost impossible to draw a distinction between a real hockey game and the video game. For topping themselves this time around, EA deserves a serious shout-out.} Xbox NHL 10 deserves some mode of video gaming honor only for the finer points in the team members' facial expressions - they put various of current "A-List" performers to shame, and certainly the "B-List" stars located on your girlfriend's telenovelas. And let's not forget the fight scenes, and their incredible first-person perspective.} It's just like an actual brawl - but without causing damage to your internal organs.}

 

As in NHL 09, familiar voices Gary Thorne and Bill Clement join the action with their on-the-money commentary. Boasting this particular pair at hand is not anything to laugh at, either.} Keep in mind these two males' credentials.} You have Bill Clement, aka "Clement, Clement, Hand of Cement," a respected NHL All-Star, as well as an ESPN star.} Also Clement's cohort Gary Thorne, one moreparticipator from the ESPN set, is a greatly tremendous sports personage in his own right.} Hearing these guys call the game is a mindblowing experience.} The level of realism in Xbox NHL 10 is so high, you'll think you've got the ESPN duo sitting right next to you in your home.
